Audi R15 TDI

Audi R15 TDI’s participation in the 24 Hours of Le Mans aims to once again reinforce Audi’s supremacy in car technology considering that it has given the world the second-generation diesel racing sports car. The French endurance race is a venue for the showcasing of efficient and economical cars that are environmentally-friendly and have lightweight construction. The engineers participating in the Le Mans are given lots of freedom to come up with aerodynamic cars.

With this freedom, AUDI is fielding the Audi R15 TDI, a car with features never before seen among the Le Mans sports cars. Audi Motorsports head Dr. Wolfgang Ulrich said the Audi R15 TDI has lots of detailed technical solutions that have not been seen in any of the sports prototypes before.

The Audi R15 TDI boasts of a V10 TDI engine which produces over 600 horsepower. It has a compact and lighter power unit compared to the Audi R10 TDI‘s 12-cylinder engine. Engineers are also eyeing lesser fuel consumption and CO2 emissions for the Audi R15. It is also outfitted with a lithium-ion battery which is lighter than the conventional battery being used but is able to supply a higher voltage.
