General Motors is now working on developing a new line of small premium cars for its brand Buick. The goal of the cars is to go up against BMW’s 1 series and perhaps even raising the bar while they are at it. The automaker has released a handful of sketches depicting seven possible exterior designs for a vehicle it calls Avant.

If the 1 series is focused on performance, Buick’s aim for the Avant is to provide world class luxury in a very small car.

Some of the drawings reveal a hatchback version, while some others show a coupe like roofline. The Avant may be sold with multiple body kits but only one design will be picked to be the basis of all the cars.

Due to Buick’s strong following in China, the Avant is being designed with that market in mind. However, U.S. availability is also in the cards for this global car.
