The night before the 152nd  birthday of diesel guru Rudolf Diesel’s 152nd birthday, Alfa Romeo has announced a new diesel engine for its MiTo compact hatchback line. Developed by Fiat, Alfa Romeo’s parent company, the new 1.3-liter JTDM II turbodiesel gulps down fuel at a rate of just 55 mpg in the U.S. combined cycle.

The four-cylinder churns out just 95 horsepower, although its 148 lb-ft. of torque at a low 1,500 rpm helps it hit 62 mph in a 11.6 seconds. Emissions are decreased to just 112 g/km of CO2 thanks to its second-generation turbocharger, an advanced diesel particulate filter and start-stop technology. These advances help it meet stern Euro…

Alfa Romeo is reportedly readying a smaller—and more affordable—version of its 8C to mark the brand’s 100th birthday. Alfa Romeo is going to celebrate its centennial at the Concours d’Elegance at Pebble Beach this August.

While a follow up to the 8C will be no easy task, Alfa Romeo will reportedly unveil a new concept sports car at the Concours d’Elegance this summer. Indicating its smaller size, the new concept will likely wear the 4C nameplate.

“The 8C has been a very successful halo car,” a source from Alfa said. “What we need next is a more affordable follow-up model that spreads the message over a wider customer base.”

Alfa Romeo indeed made a limited return to the United States with the 8C Competizione, but the automaker is planning a massive comeback in 2012.

At a speech last week, Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne said, “I’m a lot more confident now that Alfa Romeo will reconstitute a product offering that is acceptable globally, and more in particular in the United States and Canada. There is a strong likelihood that the brand will be back here within the next 24 months.”

Although Alfa Romeo is still mum on the news, its North American lineup would probably include the 159 replacement mid-sized sedan and station wagon Giulia and a Chrysler 300-based 166 replacement. These…

The Alfa MiTo GTA will be in the market by the end of the year, however due to the global financial crunch that is looming in the economy, Alfa decide to put an “indefinite” hold on its official release.

During the car show in Geneva, critics noticed that the 320-hp turbo four in an aggressive carbon fiber shell is actually looked nothing less than manacing. The Alfa, assured then to all roadsters that they will improve its concept as the production starts by the end of this year. There are no model specifications yet…

Expect Alfa Romeo to be once again the center of attention during next month’s AutoRAI tuningshow as it shows off the Alfa Romeo MiTo Veloce. The hatchback will have a 1.4-Liter engine that can produce 180 horsepower. It has been outfitted with Koni shocks on all the four corners while the exterior boasts of new carbon fiber front diffuser. Don’t expect the Alfa Romeo MiTo Veloce to be as extreme as te4 MiTo GTA but then again this auto shows it has a lot of potential once it reaches the American market.

Alfa Romeo is putting up the Alfa Romeo MiTo Veloce to compete, even take on the mighty MINI. While…

The Alfa Romeo Mito’s great style is not surprising considering the Alfa heritage.  It has an economical diesel engine which is a great option for those who want to economize as well as a very distinctive cabin design.

You should however watch out for superfluous electronic systems when test driving this auto. The Alfa Romeo Mito is a practical all-weather small vehicle designed in Milan but built in Turin. If you’re wondering about its last name, it means legend in Italian so you will at least have an Alfa Romeo legend in your hands when you get the Mito.

This three-door super mini has concentric LED lights that are circular, flush-doored side…
