Ford Launches Go Green Dealer Program

Ford has officially launched its “Go Green” program at the recent 2010 National Automobile Dealers Association Convention. The program is aimed at helping dealers to simultaneously reduce significant operating costs while improving environmental impact and the appeal of dealerships.

Bill Allemon, Ford’s manager of energy efficiency at Ford Land, explained that Go Green is aimed mostly at helping dealers that are looking to undergo structural and cosmetic upgrades to their facilities to develop the most cost effective and environmentally friendly plans possible, but clarified that new dealers will also be able to take part in the program. Ford will be introducing a taxi model of the Ford Transit Connect at the currently held Chicago Auto Show. After the introduction, the 2.0L four-cylinder-engine-powered van will then be off to production later this year as a 2011 model.

The taxi will also be able to run on natural gas, propane, or normal petrol. With the said options, Ford has stuck with only three seats at the back, with 135 cubic feet of cargo, to be able to accommodate the tanks for the compressed natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas.

After launching the standard version of the Transit Connect last year, Ford now announces that they will unveil a pure electric version of the said vehicle at the upcoming Chicago Auto Show. Ford will aim the Transit Connect EV to business owners in urban areas.

It was only last December that the less camouflaged 2011 Ford Edge has been seen. And even then, it has already been expected to sport the upcoming 2.0 liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine before the next Explorer.  And with the car’s nearing debut, it looks like it edged out the Explorer.

Ford recently announced that they will be launching nine new engines and six also new transmissions by the end if this year. But Ford has been keeping a secret: that the Ford F-150 will possibly have a naturally aspirated V6—in addition to the EcoBoost 3.5 liter V6 planned for this year.

At the International Consumer Electronics Show at Las Vegas, Ford introduces its latest MyFord touch screen system. The system works well with the Ford SYNC voice-operated infotainment scheme, and adds multiple LCD screens in to the whole system.

One of those LCDs is an eight-inch touch screen with customizable menus that offers drivers and passengers an alternative to the Sync’s use of voice commands.  Two more 4.2-inch LCD screens were placed in the instrument cluster behind the steering wheel which provides loads of information allowing the driver to keep current while looking at the road.  Directional pads were also installed on the steering wheel.

The 5.0 nameplate from Ford will be soon reintroduced, along with the “Boss” nameplate. However, only a limited number of track-ready, 5.0 powered, Boss-labeled 2011 Mustangs will be sold in parts counters of Ford’s local dealerships.

A few days ahead of the official release of information and specifications of the 2011 Ford Fiesta, a handful of new pictures of the new Fiesta are found on Ford’s website. The launching of the 2011 Ford Fiesta this week at the LA Auto Show will mark the Fiesta Movement by Ford which started at the Chicago Auto Show.

The pictures show that minor changes were made on the European-sourced Fiesta to meet the US regulations, as well as minor cosmetic and option changes. Ford will be using a more powerful and fuel efficient engine for the 2011 Ford Mustang.  A 3.7 liter 24-valve all-aluminum Duratec engine will be fitted into the 2011 Ford Mustang that can produce 305 horsepower and up to 380 pound feet of torque. That’s 95 horsepower more than the 2010 model’s 210 horsepower 4.0 liter V6 engine.

The engine will be paired with a six-speed manual gearbox and short-throw shifter, with a hill-assist automatic transmission also offered. Fuel economy with the manual averages at 18 mpg city and 29 mpg highway. The automatic improved with 30 mpg on the highway.
