General Motors has recently announced that it will stop production in its Moraine, Ohio Duramax diesel engine plant for 4 ½ months, effective mid-December. The diesel engine plant will re start production again in late April. The closing of the plant will allow GM to retool the plant to produce a new version of the Duramax engine.

Hoping that its darkest days are behind them, General Motors finally has some positive news to tell people. The American car makers informs us that sales of its Chevrolet Equinox, Cadillac SRX, Buick LaCrosse, and Chevrolet Camaro have been so strong it’s considering boosting production.

That will be good news for the laid-off workers of the company; they may be recalled to help meet the production demands. Even with the signs of a forthcoming turnaround for the US auto market, General Motors have announced that it will layoff another 1,000 white collar workers. The Detroit carmaker released the news after they have fell short of their target for employee buyout and early retirement packages.

According to The Detroit News, GM plans to complete the latest round of white collar layoffs by the end of the year, with most of the layoffs coming by October 1. The layoffs will mostly take place in Detroit, Warren, Pontiac and Milford. At the end of the year, GM will have laid off 6,000 white collar employees.
