If you look at the automotive industry today, you will notice that almost all automakers are in the midst of a product expansion. And one of the carmakers currently planning to expand its product line is the Daimler brand Smart. Smart is mulling over plans of creating a four door model.

According to The Detroit News, Daimler is seriously thinking of adding a four door model to the current line up of Smart. If the plans ever push through, Daimler will not do the project alone, the car maker is currently having talks with Renault about co-developing the new model.

Smart finally goes into series production with second generation electric drive. According to a report, starting November 2009, the new Smart Fortwo Electric Drive will roll off the production line at the Smart factory in Hambach, France.

Marc Langenbrinck, Brand Manager of Smart, says: “The second generation smart fortwo electric drive is based on a successful and accepted vehicle concept with character and inherent environmentally friendly characteristics. Its innovative electric battery drive makes it the perfect car for the city: it is agile, economical and climate-friendly. Motoring with zero local emissions in an urban environment has become a reality. This equates to driving fun with a clear conscience.”

The Smart cars have been in Europe since 1999 and have only been in Canada for a couple of years and also same here in the United States. Just by looking at the car, we know that this tiny car is going to grab lots of attention once you go on the road with it.

The 2009 Smart Fortwo has now new model features such as optional head/thorax side airbags, the front fascia has now met the new pedestrian safety regulations, and they also say that the seats are more comfortable. More interior space was also added and the style was a little bit refreshed from the old Smart models.
