Volvo did show an electric version of the C30 hatchback at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show, but that debut was apparently not an indication of future availability. A version of the show car will make production, but Volvo has announced it will not be available in the United States market.

At an event last month, Volvo’s Special Vehicles unit president Lennart Stegland, revealed that the production version of the C30 battery electric vehicle will only be available in Europe.

For the next two years, Volvo plans to build about 50 examples of the C30 BEV which will all be tested in Sweden. Volvo will use the initial testing to see how the…

Volvo has revealed its new 2.0 liter GTDi (Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection) four-cylinder engine for the S80, V70 and XC60.

The engine has been equipped with a turbocharger, direct injection and twin variable camshafts to be able to offer a unique combination of low fuel consumption, low emissions and high performance across a wide rev range. It is also outfitted with the world’s first exhaust manifold and integrated turbine system made of sheet steel. While this sound pretty boring, Volvo says “The sheet (steel) is lighter and more compact and, above all, this system generates less heat owing to its extra insulating layer. This allows high gas flow temperature and thus…

A sketch illustrating what may be Volvo’s future electric car has surfaced during a presentation at an event by EnerDel, lithium-ion battery suppliers for the electric Volvo C30. The futuristic and bold depiction was signed by a Stefan Jansson.

Dan Johnston, a spokesman for Volvo played down suggestions of anything resembling the final electric car design, saying the sketch is just that, a sketch.

“It’s just one of the designer guys in Sweden playing around,” Johnston told Insideline. “We won’t have an electric vehicle that looks like an electric vehicle. It won’t be like a Prius. You’ll see the continuation of [our] design language on the C30.”

However, as though the Swedes were…

According to researches, 70 percent of car collision occurs at low speed. Now, the Volvo XC60 with its City Safety System will surely trim that number.

Here’s how the feature works: a laser mounted at the top of the windshield measures the closing rate to the vehicle just ahead. When the system brains detects an imminent collision and senses no action from the driver, it steps on the break so to speak. The system is active up to 19 mph. Volvo also offers more sophisticated accident-avoidance and mitigation systems for higher speeds.

Not only does the XC60 has the City Safety System to boast about. This luxury compact crossover can churn up…

A Volvo plug in hybrid will be released in Europe by 2012, even though Speck has confirmed that it will bring similar products to the United States, he did not confirm when it would go on sale during an interview with industry publication Automotive News.…

The Volvo C30 may be new to the market but that did not hinder Volvo to give the car a new front fascia that will be more in tune with the C70. The more animated face is joined by other small upgrades for the 2010 model.

The newly redesigned front gives the C30 a different personality that separates it from the S40 and the S50. The special C30 grille and the new swept back headlamps help the C30 separate it’s self from its siblings.

“By integrating greater depth into the design language, the front has become more dramatic and expressive. Along with the angled lines of the front bumper, the new headlamps,…

The upcoming Volvo XC60 will be one of the most anticipated car from Volvo this coming 2010.  Due to Volvo’s lack luster sales performance this 2009, the company cannot afford to put out cars that the public will not like to buy.

The XC60 slots below the XC70 wagon and the XC90 crossover, this finally gives Volvo the chance to compete in the very lucrative entry luxury crossover vehicle market.  The XC60 is an all wheel drive t6 model that comes with a 6 speed automatic, 3.0 liter engine and pumps out 281 horsepower.

The car almost weighs two tons so it is not a very light car, but with the impressive…

Designer Nouphone J. Bansasine has proposed a four-door futuristic sporty coupe and it goes by the name Volvo SC90. Bansasine, who spent his internship at Volvo last 2007, said there is a growing trend for a four-door, four-seat  premium sports car which would perhaps become a reality by 2015.

This concept car is expected to blur the thin line between the sedan and the sports car. When it becomes a reality, this model is a fitting competitor to the likes of the Aton Martin Rapide and the Porsche Panamera.

While Volvo has relegated the SC90 to the status of a mere concept car, giving life to the Volvo SC90 at this time…
