Ed Welburn, General Motors’ Vice President of Global Design currently announced that the next generation Chevrolet Corvette, that will be out in a couple of years, will be getting the iconic split window design seen on the 1963 Corvette Stingray.

“The split window is something that I expect for the next Corvette,” Welburn told Inside Line. “With the back-up cameras and blind-spot detection systems that we have these days, the visibility issue is much less of a problem.”

Reporters asked Welburn if the new Corvette or C7 will be based on the Corvette Stingray Concept used in the second Transformers film.

“That car is not the next Corvette,” Welburn confirmed.

If the split window design will pull thru it will definitely get a traditional front engine, rear drive platform for the seventh generation Corvette. There were rumors that were circulating that Corvette engineers was toying with the idea of a mid engined Corvette.
