Chrysler may be bidding the Chrysler PT Cruiser goodbye after sales of the auto went down by 49% or only 50,910 units sold in 2008. The sales figure is really a damper considering that Chrysler used to sell 144,717 models wayback in 2001. With the impending demise of the PT only three models, the 300C, Sebring and Town & Country minivan would be left to carry the Chrysler torch.
Chrysler LLC President Tom LaSorda said they have not received offers for the purchase of the PT assets but admitted they are pursuing buyers who would be willing to take the PT equipment in Toluca, Mexico. The PT’s adieu is not surprising though considering that six other models have been slashed from Chrysler’s line by new controlling owner Cerberus Capital Management since 2007.
