The beautifully restored 1936 Delahaye 135 S Cabriolet was a sight to behold during the 2006 Pebble beach Concours d’Elegance joining other elegant Delahaye models. Feast your eyes on this Cabriolet because it is one of the only 14 race cars that hold the title to being the world’s greatest. The same chassis emerged as winner during the 1938 LeMans race.
The 1936 Delahaye 135 S Cabriolet with chassis number 46809 is a product of Joseph Figoni’s craftsmanship. Designed after a drop of water, this Cabriolet had the undeniably attractive aerodynamic fluid shape that characterized Figoni’s automobiles. Along with the Delahaye 135 S chassis and engine designed by Jean Francois, the lightweight coachwork produced one of its era’s most competitive cars that boast of being both luxurious and practical.
There were two engine options for the Delahaye 135 when it was first introduced at the Paris Salon in 1935—the single or triple downdraft carburetor inductions system with either the 2m227cc or the 3,557cc producing from 95 horsepower, 120 horsepower or 110 horsepower. The Delahaye 135 was a sure winner earning victories and applaud in various races including the Paris-Saint-Raphael and the Monte-Carlo Rally.
