After launching the standard version of the Transit Connect last year, Ford now announces that they will unveil a pure electric version of the said vehicle at the upcoming Chicago Auto Show. Ford will aim the Transit Connect EV to business owners in urban areas.
The gas-powered version of the Transit Connect has been a sales hit since its launch in the market. Ford now is hoping for the same results with the pure electric Transit Connect.
“Ford Transit Connect Electric is an urban, zero emission, light commercial van that serves the environment as well as its owners,” Ford said in a statement. “Instead of an internal combustion engine, the Transit Connect Electric uses a high-voltage electric motor that takes its power from a battery pack charged by plugging into a 120- or 240-volt outlet and uses not a single drop of gas.”
The Transit Connect EV will be available for fleet sales later this year. Ford will also be launching an EV version of its Focus next year.
