The 2011 Hyundai Sonata made its debut late last year at the Los Angeles Auto Show but with only one engine variant — the 198 horsepower (200 on the SE model) 2.4L direct-injection four-cylinder. However, it has been revealed that Hyundai will take the wraps off its turbo and hybrid variants of the 2011 Sonata at the upcoming New York Auto Show.
The turbo model will use a direct-injection four-cylinder and replace the typical V6 as the Sonata’s top engine offering. Although Hyundai uses a turbocharged 2.0L in the Genesis coupe, the new engine will likely be based on Hyundai’s 2.4L direct-injection unit. As the naturally aspirated Sonata generates up to 200 horsepower, the turbo model will make around 240-250 horsepower range while still achieving close to 30 mpg.
Even though not much is known with the Sonata Hybrid, some form of lithium power is expected with fuel economy sure to top the 40 mpg mark.
More details about Hyundai’s next-generation Sonata on March 31st.
