With all the new cars blurring the lines between coupe sedan and wagon, Jaguar has also decided to join the madness by building a 5 door coupe. The new coupe will go head to head with the Audi A5 Sportback and BMW 5-Series GT. The 5 door hatch back will replace the X-type is Jaguars lineup.
Dubbed as the RD7, the new car will be based on the RD6 concept that was first revealed in 2003. According to reports, Jaguar was mulling over idea of a three door coupe but decided that it’s best to make it a 5 door.
The production vehicle will feature the sleek lines of a coupe and is also tipped to include suicide rear-doors. The rear hatch will swing open, which should allow for better use in situations with a low roof clearance.
The RD7 will come with a 2.7L diesel V6, but don’t be surprised if you will see a range of different gas and diesel models. The RD7 will also be rear wheel drive so it will have a very sporty demeanor.
