Kia has released a second teaser image of its upcoming concept car, the Ray plug-in hybrid. The new concept car from Kia is set to debut next month at the Chicago Auto Show.
The automaker’s take on a four-door plug-in sedan is expected to use a variation of the gas-electric powertrain found in the Hyundai Blue Will. The Blue-Will employs a 152 horsepower direct-injected 1.6L four-cylinder, mated to a 100kW electric motor.
Thanks to its plug-in hybrid powertrain, expect fuel economy numbers approaching 60mpg in regular driving, with e concept’s EV mode boosting that to well over 100mpg. The Ray is expected to boast a 40 mile all-electric range, matching that of the Chevrolet Volt.
From the teaser photo, the Ray appears to take on the form of a four-door coupe, likely as much for aerodynamics as striking good looks. The Ray also appears to have solar panels attached to its roof, which would explain the concept’s name. It’s not known if the solar panels would be used for vehicle cooling or would actually help charge the vehicle’s batteries. The latest teaser reveals as well a sleek front end, complete with futuristic fog lights.
