If this is your very first time to see the new 2009 Mercedes-Benz G550, the first thing you will say is that is such an ugly car. And I can’t blame you, like all military inspired 4×4 vehicles the G550 looks like a box with wheels. But like the saying goes don’t judge a book by its cover, because underneath the dull looking interior lies a very good car. Good enough in fact that they have built a limousine version of the vehicle.
The standard G550 comes with 5,461cc DOHC V8 engine, 7G-TRONIC 7-speed automatic transmission, 382-hp and a 0-100 km per hour speed of 7.5 seconds. Now that is coming from a car 5,510-pound vehicle that is really made for offroad riding. The body of the G550 is so boxy that the windshield is almost vertical, that gives the driver a very good view of the road.
The steering wheel is meaty and the steering is direct enough, even at highway speeds. The 7 speed automatic transmission is very quick and responsive giving you more confidence in your driving.
If you are the type that gives more importance in personality than looks, then this is the car for you. The car is fun to drive, very practical and is a good all around vehicle. If you compare to a girl, she may not be that beautiful but she sure can cook.
