Westfield Sporstcars is planning to join the upcoming world’s first green racing series, the EV Cup, with their iRACER.
The iRACER features Lithium Phosphate batteries, a tubular chassis, and lightweight body panels. The unique and advanced design of the iRACER enables the batteries to be stored beneath the EV’s floor which at the same time lowers the car’s center of gravity.
The iRACER will be motored with two electric engines that produce 80kW (107 hp) and 1000 NM torque. The motors allow it to accelerate from 0-60 mph in under 5 seconds, before reaching its electronically top speed of 110 mph.
Dr. Paul Faithful, the Technical Director of Westfield Sportscars was quoted saying, “We are excited by the prospect of racing against other electric vehicles at circuits across Europe and beyond. EV Cup represents a great opportunity for us to develop vehicle technology on the back of this direct competition, a way to benchmark and to show that electric racing can be as dramatic and exciting as conventional motorsport.”
