The night before the 152nd  birthday of diesel guru Rudolf Diesel’s 152nd birthday, Alfa Romeo has announced a new diesel engine for its MiTo compact hatchback line. Developed by Fiat, Alfa Romeo’s parent company, the new 1.3-liter JTDM II turbodiesel gulps down fuel at a rate of just 55 mpg in the U.S. combined cycle.

The four-cylinder churns out just 95 horsepower, although its 148 lb-ft. of torque at a low 1,500 rpm helps it hit 62 mph in a 11.6 seconds. Emissions are decreased to just 112 g/km of CO2 thanks to its second-generation turbocharger, an advanced diesel particulate filter and start-stop technology. These advances help it meet stern Euro…

It looks like Aston Martin is planning to shake things up when it comes to the individualization of a car, particularly the paint job. As seen on the photos of the upcoming Cygnet in the automaker’s website, the car will be swathed with unusual paint jobs and various animal prints.

However, as in each photo the rear of the car appears to be covered up a bit, it is also likely that the odd paint scheme could also be just an interpreted an attempt to keep final design details masked for the time being.

Still, a spokesman for the company told Auto Express, “Because the Cygnet is finished by hand, and not…

Atomik Cars is planning to unveil an electric all-wheel drive version of the Abarth 500 next month.

Powering the vehicle is a lithium ion battery of the lithium iron phosphate variety. This means that the battery is safer and lasts longer in a number of circumstances, but it is heavier and takes more time to break-in.

With the French tuner’s magic, the EV will be traveling from zero to a hundred kilometers per hour in 5.6 seconds, almost 1.5 seconds faster than the stock Abarth 500. Top speed was not disclosed on the car, but the EV reaches the 400-meter mark in 14 seconds, and the one-kilometer mark in 26 seconds. With…

Audi president Johan de Nysschen may have spoken quite too soon against the electrification of the automobile—first calling the Chevrolet Volt a car “for idiots” before criticizing the U.S. government for “falling in love with electric vehicles—but despite the North American head’s sentiments, the German automaker is rapidly moving forward with its hybrid and EV plans.

The Volkswagen Group is now setting up a widespread hybrid and electric vehicle plan, with Audi playing an important role in that expansion. After Audi’s recent unveiling of a hybrid version of its new A8 flagship, it is now planning to follow that debut with a hybrid version of the Q5 crossover later this year…

The GTS400 has already been re-named as the F400 by Ginetta and premiered at Silverstone.

“I have been continually impressed by Farbio—Chris Marsh and his team have established a car which incorporates complex design with obvious beauty,” said Ginetta Chairman Lawrence Tomlinson in the press release. He also praised the addition of Farbio’s carbon…

Meanwhile, a press release issued by the automakers indicates that the rather unique name is also an abbreviation for the more or less English “CHArge de MOve.”

But whichever the case may be, the CHAdeMo association says that 158 business entities, including 20 foreign corporations, are expected to join the cause effective immediately.…

Pagani has officially released a two-minute preview for the Pagani Zonda R. The said teaser shows the car as it goes from assembly to the track with an unfortunately horribly cliché soundtrack. The car is shown shredding up both dry and wet tarmac, with only slight fishtailing.

The Italian-made Zonda R was designed to accommodate a 6.0-liter V12 engine sourced from AMG. It produces 740 horsepower (750 PS / 552 kW) and up to 710 Nm (524 lb-ft) of torque. The engine is couples to a XTRAC six-speed sequential gearbox, and is able to accelerate the car from zero to a hundred kilometers per hour in just 2.7 seconds.  Carbon-ceramic brakes…

General Motors has released one official sketch of the upcoming Excelle. The auto brand though has playing details of the compact premium sedan close to the chest.

To slot beneath the recently unveiled Regal in Buick’s lineup, the new Excelle compact sedan will be based on General Motor’s Delta II architecture, the very same that will support the Chevrolet Cruze and Volt. From the teaser sketch, it is clearly seen that the new model will sport the signature Buick waterfall grille, expressive headlights inspired by the Regal and hood-mounted portholes.

Although the Excelle is very similar to the Excelle XT hatchback recently unveiled in China, it still is rooted from the Opel…
