Kia has officially unveiled the Kia Ray plug-in concept at the Chicago Auto Show. The Ray concept is the fifth vehicle designed by Kia’s Irvine, California Kia Design Center America to debut.

Developed under Kia’s Ecodynamics sub-brand, the Kia Ray plug-in concept is intended to blend high style with outstanding fuel economy. Its sleek body is made from lightweight and recycled materials. It also has roof-mounted solar panels which help in cooling down the vehicle. The Ray also uses “cool-glazing” solar glass to keep the vehicle’s interior at a comfortable temperature.

Chevrolet Reveals 75th Anniversary Diamond Edition Suburban

Chevrolet is celebrating the Suburban’s 75th year in production with a special Diamond Edition trim package unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show.

Only 2750 units of the Diamond Edition Suburban will be produced and each will be based on the range-topping LTZ trim level. All 2750 will bathe in an exclusive White Diamond Tricoat exterior paint and will come with cashmere leather trim inside.

The Diamond Edition Suburban will also have additional equipment such as the 20-inch chrome alloy wheels, roof rails and special “75” badging inside and out. Diamond Edition badges will also be placed on the C-pillars, center steering wheel cap, sill plates and headrests.

Fiat 500 Gets 1.3 L Multijet II Diesel

Fiat’s incredibly minute Europe-bound 500 will be getting a newer, more powerful and more fuel efficient diesel engine. As to the US version of the vehicle, as said by Fiat’s CEO Sergio Marchionne will be getting the MINI-fighting small car, but he has not yet confirmed whether or not the diesel version will be available as well.

The 500’s outgoing diesel engine was able to produce a lame 75 horsepower, so Fiat upped the ante with a new Multijet II engine that uses both Start/Stop technology and a new DPF particulate filter. These changes will add 20 more horsepower at 4000 rpm, and 148 lb-ft of torque at just 1500 rpm.…

Ford will be introducing a taxi model of the Ford Transit Connect at the currently held Chicago Auto Show. After the introduction, the 2.0L four-cylinder-engine-powered van will then be off to production later this year as a 2011 model.

The taxi will also be able to run on natural gas, propane, or normal petrol. With the said options, Ford has stuck with only three seats at the back, with 135 cubic feet of cargo, to be able to accommodate the tanks for the compressed natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas.

BMW has just picked a new designer for its Art Car that will be unveiled later this year. Jeff Koons, a New York-based object designer will be creating for the BMW Art Car Programme.

The BMW Art Car programme began in 1975 with a 3.0 CSL model painted by Alexander Calder for driver Hervé Poulain to pilot in 24 Hours of Le Mans.  Since then, 17 other cars were produced for the programme, with artists like Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, and David Hockney participating.

Kia has released a second teaser image of its upcoming concept car, the Ray plug-in hybrid. The new concept car from Kia is set to debut next month at the Chicago Auto Show.

The automaker’s take on a four-door plug-in sedan is expected to use a variation of the gas-electric powertrain found in the Hyundai Blue Will. The Blue-Will employs a 152 horsepower direct-injected 1.6L four-cylinder, mated to a 100kW electric motor.

Peugeot has just revealed the 207 S16 special edition for the United Kingdom.

The S16, which was based on the 207 Sport 1.6 VTi three-door, was built to celebrate Kris Meeke’s win of the 2009 IRC driver’s title. As such, the car has rally-inspired graphics which mimic those on Meeke’s IRC winning 207 S2000 rally car. The S16 special edition has a 207 RC Cup bodykit and an interior badge signed by Meeke himself.

Styling touches include front and rear spoilers, aerodynamic side skirts, faux rear diffuser, mesh grille, dark tinted windows and 17-inch Hockenheim alloy wheels.

2011 Kia Sportage Revealed Before Its Geneva Debut

Although the third-generation Kia Sportage will help its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show, details about the said car have already been officially released after its images from European Union Patent Office were discovered.

Photos of the small SUV show the new model with a completely new front end, redesigned roofline, sculpted side panels, and LED lighting at various points.  The vehicle will be built on the same platform as the Hyundai Tucson (ix35), and will be “longer, lower and wider” than the second-generation vehicle, according to a press release.

After launching the standard version of the Transit Connect last year, Ford now announces that they will unveil a pure electric version of the said vehicle at the upcoming Chicago Auto Show. Ford will aim the Transit Connect EV to business owners in urban areas.

Renault Wind CC To Be Introduced in Geneva

As scheduled, Renault will introduce the new Megane CC at the Geneva Motor Show. But apparently, that’s not the only coupe convertible that will be seen from the automaker. The two-seat Renault Wind, which is sized the same as the outgoing Peugeot 206CC, will be side-by-side with the Megane CC at the auto show next month.
