After the Frankfurt Motor Show debut of the Prius Plug-in Hybrid, Toyota now announces the testing program for the said ecar in Japan. The program is scheduled to run for the next six months and will include 600 units of the Prius Plug-in Hybrid in Japan, Europe and the United States.
230 units will be tested by Japanese government agencies and other utilities. Another 200 units will be divided among France, United Kingdom and Portugal. The United States will get 150 units. The destination of the remaining 20 units is still to be decided. Canada, Australia, New Zealand and ten other European countries are all vying to get a unit.
The Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid is said capable of traveling around 14 miles on electric power with its lithium-ion battery technology—when the battery is drained the car will revert back to standard hybrid mode.
Retail version of the Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid will be available in showrooms by late 2011.
