A new hybrid concept was introduced by Toyota at the North American International Auto Show; the FT-CH. Toyota said that the FT-CH could be one possible future of urban commuting.
The FT-CH will be 22 inches shorter than the Prius. The trimmed length would surely be noticed in the legroom and cargo area. Nevertheless, it will be a compact hybrid.
The FT-CH will surely appeal to the retro 80’s gamers out there with its “8-bit” motif which intends “to be fun and innovative, colorful and stylish, with strong appeal to young buyers.”
More battery electric and plug-in hybrids will be introduced by the Japanese automaker in the coming 2012. Hydrogen fuel cell models meanwhile are scheduled to hit the market in 2015.
“The strategy is still taking shape and obviously it will require additional models to qualify as a family,” said Toyota Motor Sales US president Jim Lentz. “Among others, the FT-CH is a concept that we are considering.”
