Americans will soon get the chance to own a small but fuel-efficient car as the VW Polo is on its way to the United States. VW development chief Ulrich Hackenberg predicted an oil price hike which will further increase the demand for small cars like the VW Polo.
The subcompact segment is in fact the fastest growing car segment in the US and while VW has never competed in that arena in the US the German manufacturer is confident that the US market will embrace VW’s new auto model which would be smaller than the Honda Fit but larger than the Toyota Yaris.
The smallest VW car being sold in the United States is the Golf or the Rabbit and the addition of the VW Polo would be welcomed by consumers who are keen on fuel efficient compact cars. The introduction of the WV Polo in the US market is expected to help the company meet its goal of improving its annual US vehicle sales to 800,000.
While there is as yet no date for the VW Polo launch in the US, there is a high probability that it will be shown during the New York auto show in April.
